How this is calculated

The calculator uses four inputs: calls per day, percent of calls missed, average job value, and the booking rate, which is the share of missed calls that would have converted to paying work if someone had answered.

The booking rate is the most important input. We include it because not every missed call is a lost job. Some callers will try again, some were price-shopping and would not have booked regardless. We estimate that 30 to 50 percent of missed calls from home service businesses represent genuine lost jobs, depending on the trade.

The math: missed calls per day multiplied by 22 working days, multiplied by your booking rate, gives lost jobs per month. Multiply by average job value for the monthly revenue figure. We only count missed calls that would have become paying work.

FAQ

Calculator questions

How many calls do home service businesses miss?

Industry research consistently shows that home service businesses miss 25 to 40 percent of inbound calls. After-hours and weekend calls are missed at even higher rates, often 60 percent or more, because most small shops do not staff a phone around the clock.

Is this calculator realistic?

The calculator uses a booking rate input specifically to avoid inflating the number. Not every missed call would have become a paying job. We only count the fraction of missed calls that realistically would have booked, which gives you a more honest estimate of the true cost.

How do I stop missing calls?

The most reliable fix is an AI receptionist that answers every call, any time of day. Fred answers calls 24/7, qualifies the caller, books jobs directly into your calendar, and sends you a summary after every call. Setup takes a few days and requires no software on your end.
